More Show Favourites...
Another area which got lots of attention at our Show "Thoughts of Spring" was the display of Miniatures. If you know me at all, you know I love miniatures, both making my own, and seeing those of others. Five members showed nine minis and they sure caught your eye. Seen on the lower right in above photo, and in close-up at right, "Constellations" by Barb Perry, our prolific Co-ordinator, amazed everyone. It measures 21" x 24" and is comprised of 1801 tiny hexagons, all pieced by hand of course... Wow, I think I'd be crazy before I got the first round done..... Impressive, for sure. And she still likes hexagons, after all that...
I also love quilts with humour and we had a few of those too. "Gotta Quilt" by Sandi MacMillan greeted visitors as they entered our large main room at the Show. Isn't this little fella cute? We can all understand his enthusiasm! Sandi did this piece in 2010 for a Log Cabin Challenge at her Florida Guild which she attends in the winter.
Donna Young's "Scaredy Squirrel at Night" made us all smile - if you are unfamiliar with the Scaredy Squirrel children's books, they cleverly deal with common children's fears in a funny and light-hearted way. (And yes, that IS a REAL squirrel tail... Donna has an interesting story on how she acquired it...)
Barb Cross's winning Challenge quilt took a humourous look at that spring occurance we all love to hate - the pothole. I think all could identify with this misfortune. At left we see Barb in her little red car, kitties in the backseat, hitting a doozie of a pothole on one of Freddy Beach's streets.
Anyone who knows Barb Perry knows she LOVES cats. So we were not surprised to see that "Garden Patch Cats" was made by Barb. You just had to chuckle when you read names like Caulipuss, Stalker, Kittney Bean, Podcat, and Pumpcat. Too cute, Barb!
I hope you are enjoying the chance to have a brief glimpse of our Quilt Show. More to come... stay tuned...
Piece,
Linda

There were so many sweet miniature and small quilts. Sue's flower arrangement in the bright rubber boots was one of my favorites. The pothole was very appropriate for this time of year. Its fabulous to see pictures on your blog. Lucy
I love the miniatures - those hexagons are amazing and look like real (eye) CANDY. And the cats..... oh, how cute and clever! Combining them with veggie names is hilarious. I loved your post! Hugs, Cathy
