More Kumihimo

Just finished another Kumihimo bracelet. I think this is my sixth. This one is what you'd call a "custom" job I guess. I made it specifically to go with an outfit- rayon batik skirt, teal top and tan shoes/purse. I'm off to The Big Apple next Tuesday- yep, New York City here I come!!
So I'm trying to get some outfits pulled together so packing will be easy. Yes NYC will never be the same.... 49 of us, from the Ladies Choir I sing with, are going on a little trip!! We're not performing, it's just a pleasure trip, primarily to see some Broadway Shows. I'm seeing Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys and Billy Elliot. Others are seeing Wicked, Lion King and a few more... I can't wait! There's nothing like a Broadway Show. I also plan to spend a good chunk of time in the Garment District: I'm not much of a shopper when it comes to "fashion" but I'm sure I'll find something to spend money on there.... haha
Tonight we're off to a big Birthday Bash.... IF the Birthday Girl allows, I'll share some stories and/or pics tomorrow...

Peace,
Linda

Beads and Baubles...

Another Kumihimo bracelet done... and this one's for me...yippeeee...
Now that Midnight Dancer is finished, I am pondering my next miniature quilt... I'm leaning towards my old favourite combo of blue and white... I found a design today in a magazine which I think I'll give a try, and I already know what I'll call it... "Blueberries and Cream"....
Stay tuned....

Early Birthday gift...

When dear daughter was home in December and saw me working on a Kumihimo bracelet to give to a friend as a Christmas gift, she dropped a broad hint that she would like one as well. Since her birthday was approaching and I wasn't too flush with gift ideas, I figured a bracelet made while she was home for Spring Break would be a good idea, as I wouldn't have to mail it to her. So last week, I got busy and got this one finished. She wanted blue and I was lucky to strike my favourite bead shop, The Beadnik, just after she got in a good shipment of the top-drilled pearls so there were lots of color choices. You couldn't get much BLUE-er than this, could you!

I love making these bracelets. Choosing the beads and then seeing how they look as they are "woven" together is so much fun. I have another one underway... for me!! Stay tuned...

Countdown....

Ian's wedding is just a few days away now, and we are crossing things off the list. Hubby's Tux arrived last night- everything fit perfectly... except there was no tie. Hopefully it will come in tomorrow. I have finished my bracelet, so now I am all set except perhaps picking up an extra pair of pantihose to have on hand - always a good idea. This is another Kumihimo bracelet - they are really fun to do and I am pleased with it. This photo really does not do it justice...
Tomorrow I will cook a small turkey so that I can take some of the meat down to Mark. I know he will appreciate some yummy turkey - a few meals that he will not have to prepare himself! Not so sure I'll get a pot of turkey soup made before we go...
I know my posts have been a little less frequent lately, but those of you who have had family weddings know how busy things get. Just getting ready to be away for a few days takes a lot of work, as all Mothers know... and yes, I know my sewing machine is falling into a depression, thinking I have totally abandoned it.. did you all read the comment it left on my previous post? I tell you, I have one smart machine! Now I wonder who helped that comment along??? Hang in there baby, I'll be there soon...

Laura was home on the weekend, and it was so nice to be able to spend some time with her. Tomorrow I will share a few pics from Kings Landing with you - we spent a few hours there on Saturday; the sun actually shone and we had great fun with our cameras. I love the Landing in the fall - the trees, the crops being harvested, the pumpkins, etc. It's such a special place and we are so fortunate to have it so closeby. This is the last week they are open - Thanksgiving Monday is closing day.

Have you all been enjoying the gorgeous fall colors like I have? They seem to be more brilliant this year; the leaves also seem to be falling earlier than normal... :(

Kumihimo Fun

My beading class this evening was such fun! I was very pleased with the bracelet I finished. Kathy, the teacher, was excellent and very patient with those of us who had little beading experience. The Kumihimo braiding was not all that difficult once you got the hang of it. She wisely had us practice with yarn first, before we tried it with our bead strands. I didn't use quite the same combo of beads that was suggested for the class, as I didn't want mine to be quite as "chunky" and big. (I know I'll be visiting Sarah's shop every once in a while to see what new colors of pearls and co-ordinating beads she has in - The Beadnik on Main St., Fredericton North). I am very happy with my first effort and can't wait to try another, with other bead combinations. I think it is something that once you have the braiding sequence down pat, you could do it in front of the TV or whatever... Now to fashion some matching earrings from the leftovers... Thanks Kathy for a great class!
