Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day everyone! Today is Canada's 149th birthday! I say this every year, but this year more than ever, I am SO proud to be Canadian and to live where I do. As this crazy world just seems to keep getting crazier, as there is more unrest, more tension, and I hate to say it but more hate and prejudice towards our fellow man, I am proud to live in Canada. Our flag is recognized as a symbol of a peace-loving country and our troops are known as peace-keepers. Will we ever see world peace? I don't know...
What are you doing today to celebrate? Attending  a community  event? a parade? a picnic? fireworks? having a special meal with loved ones?  However you choose to celebrate this beautiful day (it's going to be  a mighty hot one here!) take a moment to stop and think about what it means to you to be a Canadian. It makes me very proud and thankful! I've travelled a lot and seen many beautiful places, many I'd like to return to, but there's no where else I'd want to call home. I love you Canada! Happy Birthday!!

Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day everyone! I am so very proud and grateful to be a citizen of this great country! We are so fortunate to have rights and freedoms which many others in the world do not. I've done a lot of travelling and visited many amazing places, but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else!
So three cheers for Canada today, celebrating her 148th birthday! Wow, that's a lot of candles!!   :)

Lest We Forget

Today, November 11, we honour our war dead, soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice by giving their lives for our freedom. With the recent acts of violence in our country, the murder of three RCMP officers and wounding of two others in Moncton in June, and the killing of two soldiers in  Quebec and Ottawa a few short weeks ago, let us be even more grateful to those who serve our country every day and keep us safe, and let's continue to pray for peace in this crazy world we live in.

Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day everyone! We're celebrating Canada's 147th birthday today! Wave those Maple Leaf flags!! Three cheers for the Red and White! We're taking it easy today as it's just too darn hot to do much of anything. We're all laying low with the blinds down, trying to keep out the heat.... Hope you are enjoying your day too, whether it's a holiday for you or not.

Gold Rush! Go Canada!!

Well I'm sitting at my sewing machine today but my eyes are on the tv more than my sewing... The men's semi final hockey game is on - Canada vs USA - need  I say more? No score yet after first period. Come on guys! Put one up on the board. Or two or three... Both teams are working so hard...
I'm working on a  new miniature. Probably not the best choice for today.... I should be sewing carefully, slowly, paying great attention to accuracy...hmmm, might have to re-think this... I should be working on something "mindless" as my mind is on what's happening in Sochi right now...
We've seen a bit of a Gold Rush in the last 24 hours.. Gold in Women's Curling. Gold in Women's Hockey. Gold this morning in Men's Curling. Gold and Silver this morning in Women's Ski Cross.... GO CANADA!!
Gotta go- second period has started.. I hope to post again later today with more photos from the World Quilt Show in Florida.. and I have a finished totebag to show you too...

Go Canada!

Are you watching the Olympics? How about that curling game this morning?!! Canada's women's team, led by Skip Jennifer Jones has put on quite the show, going into this gold medal game undefeated. A perfect Olympic run! A record! They play so well under pressure.. a team to be proud of. Well done Jennifer Jones, Kaitlyn Lawes,  Jill Officer and Dawn McEwen!!!
Now we can turn our attention to hockey, with the hopes of more gold there... Today the Women play for gold and tomorrow our Men's team plays the USA in the semis... Woohoo! GO CANADA!
How do you like the Olympic banners? Obviously the influence of quilting is alive and well. Love that colorful patchwork design.. just sayin'....
Gotta go grab some lunch before the hockey game starts....
