Continuing on with the gift bag for baby Layelah...
Her quilt was finished just in time.. but her Raggedy Anne doll was finished early as I worked on it through the summer. When I was much younger, and all my friends were having babies, I made many Raggedy Annes and Andys, always in the traditional red; the last two I made were for my own two children (so we know that's a few years ago!) But I knew red just wouldn't work for Miss Layelah- not with a purple room!! So I set about making her a funky purple Raggedy Anne. What fun I had searching for the right fabrics for the dress, striped socks and look at the perfect gingham rickrack!!
Her face and I Love You heart are hand embroidered. She is 14" tall. I calculated that my pattern is about 40 years old.. so no wonder the embroidery transfers for the facial features were all dried up... I just traced them onto the fabric with pencil. All in all I was pleased with how she turned out.
Making the doll itself, the hair in particular, takes more time than the clothing. Every loop of the hair (and there are many) is secured with another stitch so little fingers can not pull the loops out. The hair probably takes longer than anything else. She is well dressed with pantaloons, dress and pinafore. Somewhat "dated" perhaps, in today's world, but still a classic in my mind.
In the gift bag as well were a lilac soft flannel receiving blanket and a copy of Sheree Fitch's Mabel Murple along with these two darling bunnies, knit by my friend Gail M. I
I guess you can see I had such great fun getting ready for this little girl's arrival... ♥
I am linking up with Wendy's Peacock Party. Pop over to see what others have been working on here.

A granddaughter is a treasure whose worth you cannot measure except by the love in your heart.

That is so cute......oh, the things I missed out on not having a daughter or granddaughter......sigh......
This is a post filled with love, both in the making and the giving. Sweet gifts.
Love thm all! You did a marvelous job of reinterpreting Raggedy Anne in colors that would work. When my daughter was born, she received both a Raggedy Anne and a Raggedy Andy in the traditional colors. She loved them right to death and I have no idea where they are now or if they survived at all.
Those bunnies are sooooo darling!
I was not blessed with a grandgirlie, so I very much enjoy seeing what little girls are up to these days via my blogging buddies’ posts. Well done!
What a lucky little girl Layelah is! The joy you had in making the Raggedy Ann and the quilt definitely came out clear in your post! So sweet!!
I love purple Raggedy Ann! I had a handmade Raggedy Ann doll when I was a child, but I have no idea who made it. I was too small to consider such things when she entered my young life. And yes, the bunnies are very cute! Wonderful gifts for mom & baby.
Having some trouble with Blogger today, published comments are not forwarding to my inbox. I think I have rectified the problem now, but cannot access an email address for you, Cathy M and Michelle, so hope you check back here. I had such fun doing this RA doll for my sweet Layelah. It really was fun to get away from the traditional red colouring...
Oh my goodness, your Raggedy Anne is beautiful. Your colors all work so beautifully together. I remember how long the hair takes! I hope she becomes your granddaughter's favorite doll! I love the little bunnies, too. All such wonderful new baby gifts!
Your quilt, Raggedy Anne and bunnies are fantastic!! Granddaughters are truly amazing!! I have 3 and one more arriving in May!! Grandson #3 is arriving in July...so exciting!! Looking forward to seeing pictures of Layelah with her quilt and softies!!
You just can't beat a Raggedy Anne doll , I too have had the pattern for 40 or so years and made them for all my nieces and nephews as well as my own children . Love the purple hair , too cute . Those bunnies are adorable too. Congrats on being a grandmother , nothing quite like it.
Your dolls are great. It's just so much fun stitching for kids, isn't it? I'm pretty sure I still have my Raggedy pattern.

What a cute doll for a little girl. Thank you for linking up to the Peacock Party.
Sweet doll, she will love her!
Absolutely perfect. What a lovely gift for a treasured grand-daughter. Love that purple!!!!
I was cleaning my fabric storage room this past weekend 8/1/2020 and found my pattern for Raggedy Ann dolls. I had cut out one, but never have gotten it made. You doll with the purple is fabulous! I worked with a lady years ago that use to make them for sale. She made a white one with off white hair and white clothes, it was beautiful. I guess I should try and get that doll made! I think maybe the thought of the hair was holding me back.
I do have a question - I saw that you figured out how to fix your comments so they would go to your email too. I am having that problem and have no idea how to fix it. They use to do that before this new blogger format was installed. Thanks!
