I have been slowly working away at the borders of my Talkin' Turkey quilt. Of course this involves a whole lot more cutting... so the progress is not as fast as I would like. I think I have now decided what I'm going to do, but because I promised you a look at my two options, here they are. I just laid this out on my studio floor and placed the two options at one corner so you can see them both at the same time. The first option (across the bottom) is just a "piano key" border - varying widths of red strips - quick and easy. The other option is flying geese units on either side of the piano key border (a whole lot more cutting and work). Which do you prefer? Be honest, tell me which you
would do like best. Thanks for your help... Now, back to the cutting table...
Piece!

Ha! I would do the quick piano key one but the flying geese look so much nicer. More work for you, but...
as much as I absolutely LOVE flying geese, I prefer the plain piano key border. It seems to compliment the pattern better. To my eye the piano key/flying geese combination seems to fight for attention with the centre of the quilt. When I look at your picture that is what draws my eye, and I think your lovely turkey track blocks deserve centre stage...
Whatever you decide, I hope you love it when it's done.
The flying geese is really nice but I'm with Wendy and think it would take away from the whole quilt centre. I would do the piano keys. But, I'm not a quilter so just my humble opinion. :-) And it is easier too. ;)
I vote for the piano keys without the geese. It doesn't compete with the quilt blocks/centre, and the keys give my eyes a place to rest, allowing the centre to glow.

Hmmm...interesting. I prefer the piano keys but it took awhile to decide why. I think that the red points on the flying geese are almost twice as large as the points in your block so they dominate over the more delicate look of the turkey track block. This is then amplified when joined to the red piano strip. That said, it's your quilt!
Thanks everyone for your input. Keep those comments coming...
It's so beautiful. I prefer the straight piano keys!
OK, I'll muddy the waters :) Both are nice but I like the one with the flying geese better. All the way around the quilt I think it would read more as a solid border than when it's just a section. Then it would complement rather than compete with those gorgeous turkey tracks. Either way, you're going to have one stunning quilt!
I like the piano keys: they complement the design, frame it nicely and show off the "meat" of the quilt.....just sayin'
Geese for me for sure.
I see the piano keys, but where are the flying geese. Are the Chinese lanterns what you call geese. I like them, but agree with most of the other comments, piano keys. It's so nice...
If you are planning to have just the border fall over the edge of the bed the flying geese might be the more interesting option. I prefer the piano keys when I look at the whole quilt as I agree with what Lee has already commented.
I prefer the piano keys, but whichever you choose it will be a gorgeous quilt.
