Sunday Visitor

It hasn't been a good week. Too many good friends battling serious health  issues. Cancers, stroke, broken bones.... Ugh. As they say, "Gettin' old ain't for sissies!" So I don't have much to share with you today. Have done some sewing this week, but I've been unfocused and all over the place... Today I'm hand stitching the binding on a bed quilt. It's a charity quilt my guild will be donating to Portage Atlantic, a youth drug rehab centre. Once it's done I'll share it with you.

It's been a fairly quiet winter at the bird feeder. Just the usual species are visiting, nothing exciting...... until today when Mr. Red Squirrel showed up to tantalize Ginger and Scamp. I always know something's going on outside when the cats start going wild, running from the family room windows to the deck door, back and forth, tails swishing rapidly. Grey squirrels are an everyday sighting, but this sassy little red squirrel... Well! He got more attention! And he got MY attention when he jumped onto the suet balls and started chewing... Little varmint! The suet has now been moved to a longer hanger, further out from the tree trunk... So now we'll watch to see if he can get to it. Take that, Mr. Red!!

Peace,
Linda

I know squirrels are rodents, but they are so cute! We don't have them here so they are a novelty to us......their tails are so fluffy and feathery.

Funny that the cats are so aware and react. I agree, cute squirrel...

Watch out for those little stinkers. They were climbing on my window screens this summer- trying to get in the house? They also chewed up my wicker chairs on the porch. So strange, they didn't chew the edges, they chewed the seats and the middle of the backs........ very destructive little monsters!

Pretty sure that he'll get there...they are fantastic leapers! Good thing the cats are on patrol. Oh I hear you about friends with rough news. I think this is one of the difficult things about growing olders...so many are having health issues.

Those little devils. We do everything we can to keep them out of the feeders. I do put bread out for them by a tree on the other side of the yard and that seems to have helped somewhat. I don't mind feeding them but they are little HOGS!!

It's been a harsh winter for health around here as well. Tomorrow will be a week since my foot surgery...only 5 more to go until I can put weight on my foot. UGH!

We only have red squirrels and they are so sassy. We have our suet hung so our resident squirrel can't reach it. He sits on a branch and scolds the birds for eating from it though, as if he owns it. They are such funny creatures!

The squirrels are little mischievous critters, even here in Florida where they run around the top of the pool birdcage and torment our dog.
When it rains, it pours for family/friends with health issues - doesn't it? I am grateful for every day that I wake up and am in good health.

We rarely get grey squirrels here Linda so mostly it's the little red ones. They do clean up duty on the ground under the feeders on the clothesline, along with the 'three amigos' crows that come every day. Are you ready for this next icy blast coming tonight and tomorrow? Ugh. Here's hoping there are no power outages this time!

And yet he looks so cute! Great photos, Linda!
We too have been looking for the optimal length of the hanger and trying to place the feeder far enough from the tree trunk. Not too far because then it's exposed to rain and wind and snow. Not too high because then the squirrels jump easily from up, not too low because then they jump from the ground... :)
They are adorable little rascals and subjects of my best photos.
Reading the previous comment, I hope the weather isn't too bad there. Take care!
