Can't even begin to think of a title for today...

Like many of you, I'm sure, I am in shock today over the American election results. I don't even know what to say. How are you dealing with today's news? We all handle stress differently; I chose to spend time in the kitchen making a big pot of turkey soup. Soothing, calming comfort food. It won't help the situation much, but at least we'll feel better for a short while at suppertime.  :)
I'm also studying music for our upcoming Ladies Choir Christmas concert, and that got me to thinking about a piece we have performed in past concerts- Make Me A Channel of Your Peace, based on the prayer of St. Francis. I do my best to keep my blog free of political and religious views, but I think these lyrics might be appropriate for today when so many are feeling sad, angry, worried, despondent. Let us hope that as we go forward, the deep divisions among the American people will heal...

Make me a channel of your peace
Where there is hatred let me bring your love
Where there is injury, your pardon Lord
And where there is doubt true faith in You

Make me a channel of your peace
Where there is despair in life let me bring hope
Where there is darkness only light
And where there's sadness ever joy

O Master grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love with all my soul

Make me a channel of your peace
It is in pardoning that we are  pardoned
It is in giving to all men that we receive
And in dying that we are born to eternal life

Praying for Peace,
Linda

Out of clutter, find simplicity. From discord, find harmony. In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.

"Peace cannot be achieved through violence, it can only be attained through understanding."
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Change is the law of life and those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future." ~ John F. Kennedy

And lastly, Jack Layton's wise words: "My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear.  Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we'll change the world."

God Bless America.         God Save America.           God bless us all.

A very thoughtful post, Linda.....you have summed up how I and many others feel. A victory I hoped would not happen, but feared it would. We can only go forward one step at a time from here.

I feel betrayed and so sad. I'm glad I'm not alone in feeling this way. Thank you for your post.

Thank you, Linda. This is indeed a very thoughtful post. I can't quite believe...don't want to believe...the results. I happened to be chatting on Facebook with another Canadian friend when the results came in. I knew my county, and probably state would go for Trump, but I cannot believe he won the election. It's been a depressing day for me, and even the weather is gray and damp.

Thank you for your hopes and prayers for our country. Remember, only half of us have lost our minds. I'm praying too.

Thank you for feeling our pain. I'm so glad that I have friends in Canada should I decide to run away. All we can really do now is sit back and wait for him to Make America great Again. It's a very frightening time.

Mary Howland, I cannot answer you personally as I am not on Google Plus and therefore cannot access your email. Know that you have many around the world thinking of your country, and praying for peace as things go forward. We can only hope he can indeed bring about change and make things great again, but with peace and understanding, not hatred and racism to deepen the divisive chasms.

Thank you for this very beautiful post, dear Linda!
So many of us feel terribly disappointed... and worried about the future. I personally don't even want to think of all this yet. But I just read another encouraging post, written by Amy (in England). http://lovemademyhome.blogspot.fi/2016/11/what-next-for-world.html
Take care!

I am sick. I am scared. I am mad. This is the second election in my life that I have voted for a candidate that won the popular vote but not the election. The system IS broken to their advantage and they are NOT going to change it. White Supremacy will run amouck. We are transported back to an ugly time in history.
xx, Carol

To be honest I am still in shock and disbelief , it is hard to imagine that a couple type could vote a man such as Trump in as their leader, one who showed so many qualities that should not represent a person representing a nation . Thanks Kaaren you for your post and this beautiful song , one of my all time favorites, maybe it will help me feel better if I sing it to myself .

Many Americans have said 'the lesser of two evils' has become the new president. How sad in a country so large that more desirable candidates could not be found.
