In the Pink....

There have been far too many busy days around here lately.. and not enough time for blogging! There have also been far too many rainy days. This entire week has been rainy and dreary. Short bursts of sunshine are short-lived as the clouds roll back in... Currently we have a "severe thunderstorm watch" in place. Lovely!  I have managed to get my vegetable garden planted, although I'm wondering if some of the seeds have been washed away... The planters and hanging baskets are all done and in place. I've even planted an herb "garden" this year - in a planter. I have tried herbs in-ground previously and quickly learned that all I was doing was feeding the earwigs. So this year I have planted basil, oregano, dill, mint and parsley in a pedestal planter and placed it on my deck where I can quickly go out and snip off something fresh at suppertime for a salad or whatever. We'll see how it goes.. if I find that the earwigs have discovered it, I'll wage war!!
With all the rain, my perennials are growing like crazy- faster than I would wish. I have not got my plant supports on the ones which grow quite tall.. if it doesn't get done in the next day or two, they'll be too big for me to "handle". (Note to self- get that done today, in between the showers...)

We seem to go through a pink and then a purple phase here at this time of year.. the bleeding heart is still blooming although it is reaching it's end.

My heucherella is in full bloom. I love its delicate little spears of beauty, especially against the bright green of the hostas....

The weigela has just come into full bloom in the last two days... the bees love it!

My rhododendron is just beginning to blossom.

The poppies will be next, along with the deep purple iris....

Ahhhh... spring in the garden....

More excitement (and noise) around here today.. our driveway is being re-done. Part will simply be re-surfaced and a larger portion will be replaced. So this morning we've been listening to saws making cuts and the excavator digging out the old asphalt. At the same time, my nephew has been busy with a chainsaw removing several large tree limbs which needed to come down. Oliver is not impressed... all this racket is disturbing his naptime!! Don't worry Ollie, it will soon be over...

Peace,
Linda

Oh a new driveway...sigh...it is a fond wish...=D

The rain appeals to your plants...they look very happy!

Well......your plants are probably loving the rain, even if you have to run in and out between showers! Many of the same flowers grow here, but your trees are very different. A popular driveway here is sprayed and stencilled concrete, it is stamped to look like stones - looks good, but the spray used has a very evil smell.

The color combinations with the pink against the green foliage today are lovely! You are ahead of us.
I love that quote. I used it in my classes when I was teaching.

Your plant pics are lovely Linda. We have the same things in our gardens. I still have a few things to put in my veggie garden though. Hopefully the rain will slow down for a bit.

Happy-looking green foliage and lovely pink flowers! So beautiful!
There are indeed many pretty raindrops in your photos...
What about this: We have had the coldest early summer in 50 years, and particularly rainy weather is predicted for July, August, and September. :D
Now it's sunny, must run out to enjoy.
Have a lovely weekend!

We are getting too much rain all at the same time. I was afraid our summer would be this way after the horrific winter we had. I have these same plants in my garden. They are all thriving. However, the geraniums in pots on my deck are getting water logged!!

It's a colourful time of year right now and so very welcome to see! I'm glad the thunderstorms missed us aren't you? Good luck with the earwigs not getting into your planter on the deck. They always find mine and love to hide under the pots! I thought with our new deck last year they might not come around but they did although I've never seen them in my herbs that were in a pot. I only have one herb this year - basil. It's one I use the most. We are planting our veggie garden today. They will be late but it's been so rainy! Nice to get your driveway re-done! I wish ours was paved. Enjoy the sunshine we 'may' get this weekend. Today looks like the best one for heat and sun.

The rain was a long time coming with next to none in May. But like you, my flowers are happy now and we managed to bypass the storm and tornado watch two days ago.
Our driveway needs the same type of repair but we keep putting it off...one day.
Have a good weekend.

Love all of the pink in your garden, your plants are quite happy with the rain.

We replaced our driveway a couple of years ago and it was a mess until they finished.

Enjoy your weekend!

Gorgeous flower photos. We haven't had any rain for a good 5 weeks and it's dry, dry, dry and everything is suffering. Lovely to see your lush green and beautiful flowers blooming.
