Of Birthdays and Blues...

Spring has officially arrived. Apparently. Minutes ago. You'd never know it when you look out the window... Yes, we have had MORE snow- a fresh 3 or 4 inches this morning, which I suppose we should be grateful about as the forecast was 6 to 8inches. Of course the day is not over yet so anything is possible. Now we're getting rain, changing to freezing rain which will make a lovely mess. Yuchhh.
Tomorrow is my birthday. A big one. You know, one of those "round number" ones that end in zero. One that starts a new decade. All I want for my birthday is for spring to come. And I want it to come NOW. I'm quite sure I'm not going to get my wish anytime soon....
So - you have to make the birthday girl happy. Leave me a comment and tell me a funny birthday story, or tell me about the best birthday gift you ever got, or what your favourite birthday was and why. Come on, indulge an old girl!!  Make me smile!

I'm doing my best to ignore the weather today by spending time in my studio. Now that the rain has started I think I might even close the blinds so I can't see out. lol  I'm cutting a huge pile of blue scraps into strips to do some string-pieced blocks for a charity quilt. Our Guild is having a workday on Saturday to work on Community Projects. One of our goals this year is to provide bed quilts for all the beds at our Veterans Unit. So I'm doing blue string-pieced blocks which I'll put together with pieced sashing and ninepatch setting squares in blues and white. I'll show you progress photos in a few days. I'll be alternating back and forth between it and the Carolina Lily Miniature until both are done.
Okay, I'm waiting for your birthday stories...

Peace,
Linda

Love the colours for the quilt.
Wishing you a happy birthday and I'll do a little spring dance if it helps.

How about a birthday gift that made me laugh? My husband is a generous man who is always trying to make up for anything he thinks I may have missed while growing up. So for my 40th, he thought I would appreciate feeling younger by attending a rock concert. So with great fanfare, I was presented tickets to a Rolling Stones concert. (And I'm a kinda Simon and Garfunkel kind of girl) The laughter came when I realized how "old" the band members looked and how that in turn made me feel so much younger. I also wish you could have spring for your birthday but hope you'll make do by gathering all our best wishes for a wonderful day and wonderful year.

Thanks Colleen- good story! I guess I'd feel young in comparison to The Stones too, but probably feel very old if the audience was full of young fans... (I'd prefer Simon and Garfunkle too)

And Judith- please dance hard!!

Happy Birthday Linda!
I don't have a particular birthday tale to tell. What I do say is that I am grateful each year when my birthday comes around. I thank God that I am still here, that my loved ones are near me, and that I have lived another full and active year. I don't worry about the lines or the copious quantities of grey hair - they are a sign of wisdom. So jump for joy, go hug someone, and enjoy the day.

Oh! I forgot to say that your blue fabrics are so fresh and beautiful. Looking forward to seeing what you make from them.

Happy Happy Birthday Linda! The big one eh? I hope you have a great day and get celebrated and feted by your dearest and your family. I'm getting close to the Paul McCartney song "When I'm 6_." I never thought I'd reach this age in life and am thankful to God for every day I have here. I hope your day is extra special even if it's not very spring-like. Your quilt blues are gorgeous. What a wonderful project your guild has taken on and I'm sure the patients in the DVA will appreciate the quilts. Blessings. Pam

Having a birthday in July means you can bar-be-que fabulous hamburgers. One year everyone was able to make it on the day, so the grands were told to wear their bathing suits. Hot and humid meant a water fight. The kiddies couldn't wait to get their clothes off, bathing suits on and go for it. We had a blast!!! I was wet from head to foot and so were the 5 of them. We sat on the back lawn to dry off and opened up our loot bags. It was one of the best birthdays ever.

Happy Birthday Linda! Welcome to "the club", and like me...be happy you are there, as I know you are.
My birthday in November when I turned 50...not that long ago😇 my husband flew in or "carred" in my 4 siblings, and 2 kids from all over Canada. Lovely reunion! And...it was springlike weather which helped. Now, if we could just get that weather back...

Better late than never? Happy birthday! This zero one is happening for me too this year (and I did notice you changed your bio intro earlier this year...) I find the "9" year to be tougher than the "0" - something about looking over the edge. Don't know if this will qualify as funny, but it's a smile. I remember the surreal experience I had at a restaurant with a group of friends for my 40th. I had to ask if they had a quiet spot where I could nurse my six month over son. Never would have believed that was how I would be spending my 40th!

No funny stories, no spring temps from me sorry! Wish I could help you out. I could send you lovely spring bloom photos from where I am but I am pretty sure it wont help at all.
What I can send is birthday wishes and remember it's only a number. Nice and Easy had the best logo...you're not getting older you're getting better!
Love your blue fabrics!

Oh what nice fabrics for your next project!

The worst birthday I ever had was some point in my thirties when I forgot how old I was and thought I was a year younger than I actually was. How does a person do that?! I don't know, but I'll never do it again because it was such a shock. Now, the minute I have my birthday, I add a year so instead of being only a month older than you, I am now thirteen months older than you. Doesn't that make you feel better? Right. It's not doing a thing for me either. LOL! Hope that you are having a happy birthday weekend!
