The Blog from Prague - Day 1. Hot!!!!

Swans on Vltava River, with Charles Bridge in background
Well we're here safe and sound. And tired. Our flights were both fine- smooth, not much turbulence BUT neither of us slept a wink. The flight to Frankfurt played music the entire flight- not soft lullaby music to sleep to, but symphony music with continual loud passages!!! I so envy those who can sleep through noise... I cannot. We were in Frankfurt at 2:30 a.m. Fredericton time - a 6.5 hour flight with a lovely sunset, only several hours of darkness and then a sunrise and brilliant sunshine. I'm sure my inner clock is totally mixed up... lol   Frankfurt airport is HOOOOGE! We had a busride from one section of Terminal 1 to another and then walked for a good 20 minutes to get to our gate.. I was glad Laura was leading the way (she flew through Frankfurt before). And we were only seeing ONE terminal- there are 3! We landed in Prague just before noon local time. Hot and sunny! Taxi ride to the hotel was harrowing.. Czech drivers are crazy- much like the Italians..
My heart did a big flippy-flop upon check-in when the desk clerk told me she only had my reservation for the first 2 nights when Laura and I are together in a double room- she did not have my single room for the other 8 nights!!! ARRRGGHHHHH!! And they are
Looking up at St. Vitus Cathedral

totally booked...  You can imagine what was going through my mind.. Anyway, it all got straightened out, the reservation was there... She felt badly so gave me the dbl. room for the whole time so I don't have to switch rooms!! YAY! The room is not large by our standards, but it will be fine. Very clean and lovely bathroom, TV, phone, safe, etc.
Looking over Mala Strana towards where our hotel is
We both collapsed on the bed and soaked up the cool air for a short time before heading out to explore the Mala Strana, our area of old Prague. We knew if we fell asleep we'd not awake till tomorrow...
After a quick lunch of salad and pizza we headed for the Charles Bridge and Kampa Island, then explored up around the castle area and the large cathedral - St. Vitus Cathedral. We just wandered, too tired to try to do anything organized, but covered a good amount of area and found our way back to hotel without even a map!! I WAS impressed with my directional skills! My feet are swollen from the heat and walking.. sure hope that doesn't continue!! Photos are random.. too tired to do much organizing tonight. These are a few favs from our first day....

Peace,
Linda

Hi Linda
It would seem it is hot everywhere lately. I like the places you've seen so far and I can sympathize with swollen feet.
Put your feet up whenever you can, I've learned not to be embarrassed by elevating my legs at any given opportunity.
Enjoy the rest of your trip. I'll be away for a week and will catch up when we come home.

Looks wonderful! Sample some delicious Czech beer and put your feet up. Love Wenceslas Square to shop.
